The “Lobo de Rio” is a steel hulled student research boat commissioned by AmazonEco in 2001. She is 24 metres long and 5 metres wide. In 2007 the “Lobo de Rio” was used for the BBC Natural History Unit and Animal Planet expeditions to the Lago Preto Conservation Concession. The “Lobo de Rio” was also used for student expeditions of Operation Wallacea (Opwall) and the British Schools Exploring Society (BSES), among other journeys.

The “Lobo de Rio” has fan cooled cabins with bunk beds and shared toilets/showers. There is a dinning area and work space for students. The “Lobo de Rio” has ample deck space for viewing the magnificent Amazon River. She is powered by twin Perkins engines and has a 12kw generator. The “Lobo de Rio» has run numerous student expeditions, field courses and workshops each year. Her square bow is typical of modern boats of the Peruvian Amazon.
